About Us
The International Montessori School of Latvia (IMSOL) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse educational community with English as the language of instruction. Currently, we serve students aged 2.5 years to 12 years with a unique program that harmoniously blends the Montessori curriculum with the International Baccalaureate (IB PYP) framework. We are an Authorized IB World School for the PYP Programme. In 2026–2027 we are applying for candidacy for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
Our Mission
Empowering students to discover their potential by fostering a community of global learners, critical thinkers, and compassionate citizens of the world.
Our Vision
As an English-medium co-educational school, the International Montessori School of Latvia blends International Baccalaureate (IB) and Montessori principles to nurture internationally-minded leaders and compassionate problem solvers. We empower generations to create a brighter world—where happy, responsible, independent, and creative children confidently express themselves, living peacefully and actively contributing to positive global change.

Our History
IMSOL has grown out of two high-quality Montessori preschools. Our journey began when we were founded as a preschool named Pirmie Soļi.
As the demand for high-quality Montessori preschool exceeded our capacity, we opened a second preschool campus. As interest in continuing their children's Montessori education beyond preschool grew among the parent population, we began the process of preparing to open a rigorous Montessori elementary school with English as the language of instruction.
We were authorized to operate as an international school by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science.
We opened our first Elementary School section for children aged 6-9, and we became accredited by both the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) and Waterpark Montessori Institute, the first of its kind in the world.
Our commitment to providing a holistic and well-rounded education has led us to this exciting new phase of growth, as we prepare to introduce two more classes in the 2025-26 school year– another Age 6-9 section, and an Age 9-12 section.
We are growing fast!
Our Campus
We are located on Mastu iela, just a stone's throw from Viesturdarzs Park. One of our Preschool classrooms is located in an independent building, while the other is located in the main campus across the street.

Our commitment to the Montessori method includes the value of "Going Out," a core Montessori practice that enables our students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and immerse themselves in real-world experiences. Being in close proximity to museums, embassies, and historical sites, our students have the privilege of walking over to enrich their education with first-hand encounters, making learning both exciting and memorable.
As the sole English-medium international elementary school in Riga Centrs, we take pride in our commitment to nurturing a positive and respectful learning environment, where students not only grow academically but also develop a deep understanding of the world around them through real-life exploration.
We are proud and thrilled to announce our new main campus opened August 2024! It is beautiful and bright with enough space for the multiple classrooms, a gym, a full cafeteria, an art room, a music room, a library, and two beautiful playgrounds.

"It is not that the Montessori teacher is inactive where the usual teacher is active; rather all the activities we have described are due to active preparation and guidance of the teacher, and her later "inactivity" is a sign of her success, representing the task successfully accomplished."
